Canadian Radiostar songwriting contest - regional winner

January 21, 2009

I got a call from Z99 radio last week, letting me know that I’ve won the regional finals for the national Radiostar songwriting competition. I move on to the national finals which are in Toronto during Canadian Music Week March 12-14. I answered the phone in the shower, which made it an interesting call- managing soap in my eyes and all the rest of it. For the regional finals I won some neat stuff including a guitar, mics, cables, & recording paraphernalia. I also got a return trip to Toronto and passes to CMW + a free weekend at the Royal York Hotel. I’m quite excited to stay there as guests of the Shirley Show (remember that??) - used to stay there, lol. Cross your fingers for me for the national finals.

New Review in Chicago Free Press

January 10, 2009

We’re pasting in a review of the album, that just appeared in the Chicago Free Press. Check this out:
Reviewer: Gregg Shapiro - Jan 7/09
“Rufus Wainwright, as well as k.d. lang…. are among the Canadians making essential and beautiful music. Add the name Jeffery Straker to that list. Straker’s strong and playful vocals combined with his considerable songwriting talents make his debut album “Step Right Up” (jeffstraker.com) an invitation that’s nearly impossible to resist. Straker stakes his claim on wondrous numbers such as “Hypnotized,” “Flat Lines,” “Slippery Slope” and the super gay “Tykie’s Comin’ Out.” …..Jeffery Straker promotes a delectable brand of pop”
